Temple Beth El - Santa Maria, California 1967
While being a fifth year student of architecture at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo I was invited by the Jewish community of a neer - by town, Santa Maria, to design a temple they are planing to erect. Not being licenced yet, one of my instructors, Prof. Hans Mager, took upon himself the structural and legal responsibilities. For which I am eternally grateful. The construction begun on summer of 1967 and was completed a year later.
Throughout the construction I was personally involved in the process as well as creating various artifacts of Jewish meaning, as can be seen in the images below. In some of them I collaborated with the famous sculptor Gordon Newell from Monterey.
